THE KANO DURBAR 2019

Day 1, Tue Jun 04:

Arrive Kano and transfer to Central Hotel/Tahir Palace. Dinner take place at the hotel in the evening. Those that arrive Kano before 3 pm will have a complimentary local lunch including "Fura da Nono."

Day 2, Wed Jun 05:

Set for Katsina town as early as 7:30 am after breakfast. Katsina is one of the ancient cities in Northern Nigeria, and one of the Hausa-Bakwai ("Seven True Hausa States") with history dated back to the 10th century. The full day activities shall include the watching of the Hawan Sallah (a colorful display of horse-riding procession to and from the prayer ground), courtesy call on the Emir, lunch at the palace and visit to the National museum, Katsina. Return to Kano in the evening.

Day 3, Thu Jun 06:

The day starts with early breakfast and visit to Dawakin Tofa pot making village. Guests will have the opportunity to learn and participate in making their own pots. Return to Kano city and visit the Gidan Makama National Museum. The original edifice was constructed in the 15th century and now housed 11 galleries illustrating the Hausa tradition, arts and history. In the evening we visit the Emir's Palace to watch the Hawan Daushe which is the high point of the of the Durbar experience. The Hawan Daushe is a gathering of hundreds of royal horse riders with a display of horsemanship representing different chiefdoms within the Kano emirate, who come to pay homage to the Emir.

Day 4 (Fri, June 7):

The day begins with early breakfast and attends the Hawan Nassarawa. This is a colorful parade of horses and riders escorting the Emir to visit the Gidan Nassarawa (the colonial seat of power) and later pay courtesy call on the State Governor. In the afternoon we take tour of the Kano city Wall/Gates. Described as the oldest existing earth (mud) structure, the Kano city wall covers about 14km radius and its initial construction was traced to 1095 AD. Guest will view the remnant of this ancient structure and its associated gates. The tour include visit to the 500 years old Kofar Mata Dye Pits to watch the demonstration and participate in the dyeing of local Ankara (Fabrics). The day ends with a dinner/gala night at the historic Kano tourists' camp.

Day 5 Sat, June 8:
